What is Craniotomy ?
An operation in which a small hole is made in the skull or a piece of bone is removed from the skull to reveal part of the brain. A craniotomy may be performed to remove a brain tumor or a sample of brain tissue. It can also be done to remove blood or blood clots from the brain, to relieve pressure in the brain after an injury or stroke, to repair a fractured skull or a brain aneurysm (a bulge in the wall of a blood vessel), or to treat other brain disorders. The bone removed from the skull is usually replaced after surgery.
